Mya Yoga

As I have stated before I am taking a yoga class at school on friday afternoon which is a completely different experience from my own yoga at home. This class is made for development and peer support so there is a lot of attention to detail and one-on-one work between peers. This is different from what I have been doing in the past which is a more up-tempo type of yoga where there is a lot of movement and strength excercises. However, I feel that this has been good for me and helped me develop my technique and knowledge about yoga while still giving me the core and upper body strength training.

This week though, we didnt have a class as school. Instead, we were allowed to attend on free class at a new yoga studio in Umeå. The studio is called Mya Yoga and they have everything from lectures about yoga, to yin-yoga which is a more relaxed form of yoga, to meditation, to flow yoga which is more movement. I attended the flow yoga on saturday morning. This was once again a different experience since there was a new instructor, a new group of people, and this was more like what I do at home. This was very focused on continuous movement combined with static core training. It was fun and exciting to try  something new!

Yoga-X

Besides going to the gym once a week with Magda (which has not been going to well the past two weeks due to a severe cold I´ve been having) I have started with Yoga again. I use a special yoga program which is a part of the P90X workout program by Tony Horton. This session is 90 minutes long and works on core strength as well as flexibility. It is a very tough workout but also very relaxing afterwards. I do this every other day, giving my body one day to recover inbetween, and I have been feeling the results. Hopefully this will bring back the core stregth that I had when I was a dancer, when I lives in America.

Gym

Magda and I have started going to the gym on Mondays during our free period. We´ve gone two times and been there for about an hour each time. My routine looks something like this:

- 20 minutes on a bike, keeping a constant speed of about 115-120 revolutions per minute.
- After that I work on my stomach and back, doing sit ups, twists, back lifts, and other various exercises.
- Finally, I wake on the treadmill to cool off, and then stretch out my legs and stomach muscles.

Also, while I was in Amerika during the holidays, I went running a few times. Each time I ran for about 1.5 hours and walked for one half hour. This was just a small training to keep up my fitness a little bit while on vacation.

Swimming

During the fall break I went swimming with a friend and my sisters. Though it was mostly a "fun" activity, my friend and I did swim 1000 meters while we were there.

I´m considering getting myself a membership at the pool close to school so that I can swim, since it is both very relaxing and very effective exercise. It would be very convenient if we had a pool at school, along with the gym.

I´m going to check the prices for memberships and maybe get one. Then I could swim during my spare time, which would be wonderful.
