"FeztFixarna" 2.0

Similarly to previously this fall when I, together with a group called Feztfixarna, put together an event for the students at out school with the theme "Halloween", we are currently planning another event. This event is scheduled to take place in the beginning of June, that is to say after the end of my CAS time. However, we have been planning this event for a while now. In addition to this event, we have also started filming a promotional video for this group, in order to attract new memebers and volunteers during the events.

The theme for this event is "adventure" and I have among other things been put in charge of making the promotional posters for this event. I will also, as I did last time take photos during the event and help out during the rest fo the planning, the set-up, the actual event, and the clean-up. However I will only take service for the planning time and the time taken to make the poster for the group.

Planning time: 5 hours
Poster-making time: 2 hours

Peer Support & IVIK

At every school there is a peer support group, which has two representatives from each class. These people are responsible for reporting bullying and trying to help people in their class and at the school who may not be comfortable or a little outside of the main stream groups. From our class the two chosen representative are Anneli and I.

On Wednesday, there was a meeting for this group of people for 1½ hour in the morning. We acted out a role play about bullying and changed the other groups plays to fix the siutation that was causing problems. We also discussed what we as students can do to help the situation at our school and when it is saf to get involved in problem that we see happening. We were also exposed to how teachers deal with problems concerning bullying.

These meetings happen every 3 months and there is also a class for 50 point that Anneli and I will be attending next semester, to get the required education.

Our class as a whole also helps out the IVIK class. This is a class for people who have immigrated to Sweden and do not have the level of Swedish required to enter into the Gymnasium stage of schooling. We help them once a week with whatever they may need help with from their school subjects. This can be math, chemistry, religion, english, or anything else that they struggle with.

Studies

I am helping a classmate with her math studies since I have already taken the course that she is currently studying. We worked together for an hour when we both had a free period on wednesday morning. We plan on doing this every wednesday, or at least the ones where she feels that she needs help! This not only helps her improve her current math skills, but it also allows me to refresh what I have done in the past in order to retain information I may need for my current math studies.

Finnish Exchange : Reflection

Last week I had two of the IB2's Finnish exchange students staying with me. Before they came to stay with me I was sure that I wouldn't get anything out of it, besides maybe meeting two new people. But when they were finally here and we got to talking over a cup of tea and lots of cake, I got to know two really great girls. I got to learn about and compare the IB programs here and there, our teachers, and our classes. We talked about ourselves and and our lives, and we had a great time. We had quite a lot in common and there wasn't a boring second once we started talking. It was really a great experience and I can't wait for our own Finnish exchange in the spring! Altogether a great experience, and I look forward to hearing how those girls are doing in the future and keeping in touch.
